Happy New Year! I hope you all had a lovely and relaxing holiday season – I certainly did! This year we went up to Portland (to visit my boyfriend’s family) and Seattle (to visit my brother and his family) for Christmas and New Years. The Pacific Northwest was a refreshing change from our predictable SoCal weather. We even got to see some snow! Going back to work this past Wednesday after such a wonderful vacation was not easy, but at least 2019 started out with a short work week!
Since it’s January and the start to a new year of reading, I’d like to establish some reading goals for myself. Primarily, I’d like to cut down on the number of books I purchase and significantly decrease my TBR shelf. That being said, I’ll probably still have a large book haul for January because I ordered quite a few new books with Christmas and birthday gift cards, etc. After January is over though, I will be limiting myself to only purchasing a book after I’ve read 3 off my shelves – so 3 books read equals 1 new possible purchase.
I’m also excited to be participating in #theunreadshelfproject2019 on Instagram hosted by @theunreadshelf! I’m hoping that being a part of this project will help keep me accountable to myself when it comes to sticking to my reading goals, which include meeting my Goodreads goal of 75 books and decreasing my ridiculous TBR. Speaking of my TBR, #theunreadshelfproject2019 requires that I count all the unread books on my shelves so I can see the progress I’ll be making throughout the year. I’m embarrassed to say that there are 277 unread books currently on my shelves. Holy cow, what has my life become?! This number does not include my Penguin Clothbound Classics because they’re mostly for decoration, nor does it contain any academic books.
I’m thinking that every season I will do a check-in post to see how I’m progressing through my goals. So stay tuned for more!

I’d love to hear a little about your 2019 reading goals! And if you’re following along with any challenges/projects on social media please let me know – I’d love to follow along with you. Happy Reading!
Admirable goal! Good luck with that!

Thanks, I’m gonna need it!

I wish I had your willpower! I exist in a world of being able to get books for 1.99 every day on Kindle, so I’ll probably double what I have unread by the end of the year.

It helps that I’m not an e-book reader, otherwise I would be in the same boat as you are! Good luck with your goals! But also, don’t be too hard on yourself and enjoy reading 🙂
